P3: Describe energy transfers associated with plants and animals and relate them to the carbon cycle
To obtain P3 Task 1, 2 and 3 must be completed.
Task 1For this task you are a student who has been asked by your online lecturer to:
Describe photosynthesis as a 2 part process. Your answer must be in essay form and detail -
a) Both stages of photosynthesis using the correct names.
b) Where and how Oxygen, ATP, Hydrogen and Glucose are produced.
c) Within which organelle these stages take place and within which structure.
d) The role of NADP in photosynthesis and where it is found.
e) Formulas for both stages showing the production of ATP and liberation (release) of Oxygen and the use of Hydrogen and CO2 in forming a sugar.
Task 2
Carry out an experiment to determine the effect of light intensity and carbon dioxide concentration on the rate of photosynthesis. The experiment must be written up under the headings of: aim, materials, method, results, conclusion and evaluation.
Task 3
Produce a table which identifies the similarities and differences between Photosynthesis and
Respiration in regards to:· Whether they are carried out in plants or animals.
· The organelle in which they take place
· The reactants and energy sources required.
· The products formed.
· Whether energy is stored or released by the process.
· The names of any electron rich energy carriers.
· The equations for photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
· The role of the process in the carbon cycle

M3: Explain the effects of human activity on carbon dioxide emissions
To obtain M3, Tasks 1 & 2 must be completed.
Explain the effects of human activity on carbon dioxide emissions. Include the following:
a) Human contribution to CO2 emissions- what are the main sources of CO2 emissions, show in the form of a pie chart and comment
b) Changes in CO2 levels in the past 50 years (Illustrate a graph or table of data with an explanation)
c) Is the earth warming up? Provide evidence from data of global temperature readings (remember to reference)
d) Why and how does carbon dioxide affect the earth’s climate? Include the impacts of global warming on: sea level change, weather patterns, human health, food production, ecosystems.
e) Explain what is meant by the term “Carbon Footprint”

ReplyDeleteWhere can I access the table for task 3 anyone?. I wz absent fom class.
ReplyDeleteMuna
I completed task 1 in class 2 weeks ago, do we need to type this ??
ReplyDeleteZahid
For the experiment write up can I include a diagram of the set-up and I was thinkin of putting the evaluation and conclusion together. Will that be okay miss.
ReplyDeleteMuna: Table 3 has been placed onto Unit 23 scheme of work, alternatively come to see me and I can provide you with a copy.
ReplyDeleteZahid: Task 1 must be typed, once it has been marked and handed back to you, please type and hand-in.
Anonymous: You may use a diagram as part of the methods section, however make sure the evaluation is a seperate section to the conclusion (use different sub-headings to organise)

Whens the deadline for M3 ?? i hav started it
